Hi, I just started playing with 8Start and so far it looks pretty neat. However, the font for categories and groups shows as a purple color. In the preview window for skins, the fonts aren't always shown as purple, so I assume they can be changed? How to do this?
Thanks,
Brett

If you're happy editing a file with Notepad or similar:
Browse to the skins folder (normallyC/program files/8start/skin)
open whichever skin's folder you want and open the file "skin".
The first entries show the font colours in hexadecimal, change this
value and save the file (000000 is black, get others by checking the values for other groups)

Thanks snowshifter for provided the help for changing the font color.
If the font is shown as a purple color but in skin folder already specifiy the white color, then this is caused by the cleartype font have been enabled in your windows.
To deactivate ClearType: Go to 'control panel\display' and select the 'appearance' tab.Click the 'effects' button. Ensure that the 'use the following method to smooth the edges of screen fonts' box is checked and change the drop down box to 'Standard'
Again, this is the same cause snowshifter encountered, the add in of transparency feature in 8start Launcher 1.4 make it not display properly if some Windows default display setting have been changed.
I am already in the progress to find the solution..

Thanks for the advice! I found the skin file and can change the font colors, but I still get the purple fringe around the characters. I do use ClearType for my LCD monitor, and when I turn it off, the fringe goes away. Unfortunately, I am quite used to the smoothing provided by ClearType, and I don't want to turn it off. I can tolerate the purple fringe until Andy finds a solution.
You've created a really interesting tool. Thanks for sharing it with the world.

A good news that finally I found a solution to solve the purple color problem which is appear in cleartype font enabled computer. I will reprogram the font display code, hope the problem can be solved.
Although this is just a color display problem, but for me I need a lot of technique reseach and testing to solve it, hope it can be done soon.

Currently Fonttype is fixed in the 8start Launcher, I may add in the ability to change the fonttype in the future version

Sorry for the long waiting, finally I solve the problem of "pink color in cleartype font setting computer". The time spent is much more than I expected as using the different method to draw the text.
And aslo, the problem of changing screen resolution from high to low resolution which caused disappear of 8start Launcher also been solved.
I have a chance to test this version in Windows Vista, glad to say that no problem at all.
Intruction of using 1.4.1 beta 2
==================================
- You must have version 1.4 or 1.4.1 beta 1 installed
- download the 8start Launcher 1.4.1 beta 2 here -> www.8start.com/8start1.4.1beta2.zip (deleted, superceded by final verion 1.4.1)
- unzip and replace the 8start.exe in your computer/flash drive with this one
